Gay Budapest Guide: Dance Clubs

There is, so to speak, only one official gay club in Budapest - Alterego. Capella has a large hetero crowd and Underground is more geared towards lesbian.

All three dance clubs are weekend affairs and have one or two drag shows after midnight. Try to arrive before midnight to get a good spot for the show or not to stand in line. But don't worry, lines are never very big and move fairly quickly.

Alterego is a plushly decorated gay dance club with several bars and spaces. Not overly big, the layout still allows for pleasant cruising, mingling. The stage viewing area is not overly big, so get in early if you are a Drag Show afficionado.

Don't expect cutting edge music, rather solid gay and top 40 hits remixed.

As mentioned, this dance club is mainly young guys territory, sprinkeld with some older (meaning 25 to 35) guys. Non the less, if it's a budapest gay club you want, and there are no special dance parties, then this is your best choice.

Capella is one of the longest running gay, gay friendly dance clubs in Budapest. It usually has one or even two drag shows per night and the music is definitely light.

As mentioned, this is a popular dance club with straights, especially for bachelorette parties. The club's crowd tends to be older (20-40) so many age ranges can be found. Even though there are more straight guests then gay guests, both groups party together peacefully.

The dance club has, depending on the night, either one, two or three different floors. Capella is also a must see club with a definite interesting decor, not often seen in the world.

It is usually oppened on Wednesday, so this is a gay friendly place in Budapest to have some mid week dancing.

Underground is one of the newer LGBT dance clubs in Budapest and caters mainly to a lesbian clientele.

Still, its centrally located, so if you have not had any luck with other gay dance clubs, give it a try.
